Insight Meditation

Every Monday, 6:00pm to 7:00pm

Join us for a weekly meditation gathering open to everyone. Each session may include guided and silent meditation, a Dharma reflection or reading, and opportunities for connection through small group discussion or dialogue.

Rooted in the Buddha’s teachings, this meditation gathering is offered as a non-religious, accessible space for practice and reflection. The teachings are shared in a universal, practical way, open to everyone. Whether you’re new to meditation or a seasoned practitioner, you are warmly welcome here, regardless of your spiritual or religious beliefs.

Our Insight Meditation gathering is free to attend because we believe community and practice should be accessible to all. We do, however, welcome Dāna—voluntary, heartfelt gifts offered in the spirit of generosity—to help support our teachers and sustain the community space. There is a cash donation jar and a Venmo link at the studio. There’s no expectation or pressure to give; you’re always welcome exactly as you are.

Please come prepared to be seated on the floor. We have a limited number of bolsters and chairs available, so feel free to bring a cushion to feel more comfortable.

No registration needed. Simply join us on Monday evenings.

Amy Bird

Amy Bird

Meditation Guide

Amy studied Buddhism and Taoism in college and attended her first silent meditation retreat in 2004. She has been teaching meditation since 2020. Her practice and teaching are rooted primarily in Insight meditation in the lineage of the Burmese teacher Sayadaw U Tejaniya, while she continues to learn from teachers across a range of traditions. Amy teaches in an unscripted, natural style, offering a grounded and practical approach to cultivating wisdom and compassion. She also teaches at Open Door Meditation Community in Portland, Maine, and works as a one-on-one meditation coach.

Gabriel Baldwin

Gabriel Baldwin

Meditation Guide

Gabriel has been practicing and attending retreats at the Insight Meditation Society since 2002, studying with teachers including Michele McDonald, Jesse Maceo Vega Frey, and Chas DiCapua. He brings a social justice lens to his teaching, informed by his study with Lama Rod Owens since 2013.

Gabriel has taught mindfulness to over 11,000 students and educators in schools and camps, drawing on several multi-year teacher trainings. His work is also informed by The Hakomi Method, a mindfulness-centered somatic psychotherapy approach.

His practice is rooted in cultivating loving-kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity, with the intention that these qualities are embodied naturally and without force. His teaching style is clear, accessible, and grounded in plain language to create a welcoming and meaningful experience for all.

All are welcome.

If you’re new to meditation, we encourage you to begin your mindfulness practice with us and ask questions within our community.
